Come and be a part of a Christchurch tradition!

Ice Cream Charlie has been putting smiles on faces since 1903.

 

Now, with the warmer months approaching, we're looking for some fantastic people to join our team and help keep this much-loved Christchurch tradition going strong.

​

We have a couple of casual positions available at both of our locations:

  • Christchurch: Our iconic Ice Cream Charlie van on Armagh Street, Victoria Square

  • Kaiapoi: Our factory and store at 77 Hilton Street​

​

You'll be serving everyone from lifelong Charlie-lovers who have been visiting us for decades, to city workers, students, families and curious tourists discovering our famous Vanilla Ices for the very first time.

​

And while there's plenty of fun to be had, we're also a busy little business, so we're looking for people who are ready to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in!

​

What you'll be doing

  • Preparing and serving our famous Vanilla Ices, thickshakes, sundaes, brownie desserts and other treats to our quality standards

  • Delivering outstanding customer service, with a friendly smile and a willingness to have a chat

  • Handling cash and EFTPOS transactions accurately

  • Keeping your workspace clean, tidy, hygienic and food-safe

  • Completing temperature checks, food safety records and other daily compliance requirements

  • Monitoring stock levels and completing daily stocktakes to keep everything running smoothly

  • Taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of your location during your shift

What we're looking for

First and foremost, we're looking for great attitudes, friendly personalities and people we can count on.

​

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • A genuine love of customer service – you enjoy meeting people and making their day a little brighter

  • Reliability – when you're rostered on, we can count on you to be there, ready to go

  • Confidence and initiative – you're comfortable working independently during quieter periods and can keep yourself productive

  • A cool head under pressure – when the sun comes out and the queues start growing, you can keep smiling and work efficiently without getting flustered

  • A team-first attitude – you're happy to pitch in, help others and do whatever needs doing

  • Flexibility – you're available for a mix of weekday, evening and weekend shifts, with the ability to pick up additional shifts at short notice when needed

  • Attention to detail – you understand the importance of food safety, cleanliness, consistency and getting the little things right.

​

Previous hospitality or food service experience would be an advantage, but it's certainly not essential. We're happy to train the right people who bring the right attitude!

​

You'll need to be able to work at either of our Christchurch central city or Kaiapoi locations. If you're able to work across both, that's an even bigger bonus!
